Welcome to 2008!
May
The Dragonfly season in Derbyshire began on 9th May with the Large Red Damselfly seen by Jim Alder at Poulter Country Park. The following day, Jim spotted teneral Azures at the same site. So, we can say once more in chorus "we're off!".
Last year was a particularly miserable season here in Derbyshire. The continual wet weather prevented all but the bravest of spotters from going out. Recorded numbers were on the low side but this, I am sure, had more to do with not being able to get out because of the rain.
This year though, we have used our power and influence to order up some great weather. As I write, the sun is shining and I have had a great morning filming Solitary Wasps and Bees as well as Tiger Beetle larvae. Beats sitting in the house!
The next few weeks will see the season get underway. We welcome your contributions. Send your latest images to Derbyshire Dragonflies via email and we will be happy to display them.
