Owner:Derbyshire Countryside Service Habitat:Shipley Country Park opened in 1976 with 600 acres of attractive varied countryside. From leafy trails, three reservoirs, pools, mature woodlands and wildflower meadows. Check out Osborne's Pond at 450448 & Mapperley Reservoir & Mapperley Pond 430430. The Pool 431441 east of John Wood attracts Brown & Southern Hawkers Access:The Country Park is off Slack Lane, Heanor. It is best approached from the Derby Road A608 between Heanor and Smalley. It is well sign posted from Heanor and brown signed from Junction 26 of the M1. The Visitor Centre holds regular exhibitions, has an interesting shop area and Ramblers Coffee shop. For family visits there is an excellent play area and 18 miles of bridleways and footpaths to wear out the kids on the bikes whilst the Dragonfly watchers have a chance to enjoy their interests.
